Tendering to the Council

Text the Council

Text the Council will allow Fareham Borough Council to remain informed about issues that we are aiming to eliminate from Fareham, such as vandalism, graffiti etc. The mobile phone (SMS) texting and (MMS) multimedia messaging service allows you to send a text message about problems around the borough while you are out and about with your mobile phone.

 

Textile Banks

Textile recycling banks are situated throughout the borough and are controlled privately by charities. For further information on recycling and waste please contact the Recycling Section, on tel: 01329 236100 or e-mail on waste@fareham.gov.uk.

 

Toilets (Public)

There are 17 public toilets in the borough of which a number have disabled facilities on site. Radar keys for people with disabilities are available free for Fareham residents on request from the Civic Offices Reception Desk. Please contact Reception on tel: 01329 236100.

Toon Cup

The Toon Cup is awarded annually to a local sports club in recognition of its achievement during the year to encourage the introduction of and continued participation of young people from grass roots to competitive level.  In addition to the award of the Toon Cup, a grant of £250 is also given to the successful club.

 

Tourism

Fareham Borough Council is responsible for the promotion and development of tourism in Fareham, including the production of the Where to Eat Guide , Where to Stay Guide and Where to Visit Guide. Town Centre Management

Town Twinning (Civic)

Fareham is twinned with the towns of Pulheim in Germany (near Cologne) and Vannes in France (in southern Britanny). There is a programme of civic visits between the Borough Council and the authorities of each twin town, in alternate years. The visits to and from Pulheim normally involve 'working meetings' to learn about the way each deals with matters of common interest. There are arrangements for staff exchanges between the officers of Fareham and Vannes for the same purpose.

In addition to civic visits, there are a large number of other exchanges between Fareham and the two twin towns, involving youth groups, community organisations and sports clubs, etc. These are organised privately by the respective Twinning Committees. Trading Standards

Hampshire Trading Standards (this is an external hyperlink) is a county council function and is located in Winchester, tel: 08454 04 05 06. Traffic Calming

In areas where excessive speed is considered a risk to public safety the local authority may construct 'speed humps' for the purpose of reducing traffic speeds.  Speed humps are typically constructed in residential roads and in areas where there may be a large amount of pedestrian traffic (such as near school entrances).  The local authority makes provision for speed road humps to reduce speeds and improve safety of residential roads.

Travel Planner

The Travel Planner shows proposed road works in Hampshire and also gives information on car sharing schemes.

 

Travel Plans

A travel plan is typically a package of practical measures to encourage staff to choose alternatives to the car. Employers are encouraged to develop travel plans, aimed at reducing car use for travel to work and for travel for business. A range of measures can be used to make a positive impact, e.g. setting up a car sharing scheme, providing cycling facilities, negotiating improved bus services and offering attractive flexible-working practices.

The council's Concessionary Fare Scheme covers both the issue of Bus Passes and Travel Tokens. The maintenance of trees in parks and open spaces is managed within the Parks section of the Department of Customer Services, Leisure & Community Division and includes tree safety, health and general pruning. Tree Planting (Commemorative)

Trees can be planted within parks, open spaces and cemeteries subject to suitability and soil conditions in liaison with the Parks Officer in the Department of Customer Services, Leisure & Community Division. Tel: 01329 236100 ext: 4542 or e-mail parks@fareham.gov.uk.

 

Tree Preservation Orders

All local authorities have a duty under the Town and Country Planning Act to preserve and protect trees that offer a reasonable degree of public benefit or provide amenity value. The policy framework within which we work includes guidance and legislation from Central Government, industry bodies and local plans. This framework supports the work of the Council’s Arborist in the business of inspecting and assessing trees on site.

If work is required to be carried out on protected trees the Council encourages the use of the new 1APP TPO application form - item 31 (opens new window), which is due to become mandatory in a few months.  A paper copy can also be obtained from the Department of Planning and Transportation, Environment Group, Civic Offices, Civic Way, Fareham PO16 7AZ.  If necessary the existing application form for working on protected trees (830 Kb) PDF logo can be used until it is officially replaced.  For information on correct pruning techniques the Council has produced a set of tree pruning guidance notes.  Also a range of frequently asked questions on trees have been compiled which may answer your queries.

You can check whether or not the trees on your property are protected by a TPO by using the council's Tree Preservation Orders Register.
