The Council provides a range of services to encourage the growth of business in the Borough. This section of the website aims to pull together all the information/services a business within the Borough of Fareham may need, if you are a new business or an exisiting business.

There are also many agencies who can also put you in contact with professional business services provided by the private sector and others in the "enterprise network", such as the local universities.

Business Property within Fareham

Business property within the Borough of Fareham is mostly provided by the private sector. The council aims to signpost currently available commercial land and property via its involvement with PROP South East.

Fareham Business Database

Fareham provides a comprehensive business database that any business within the Borough can register on, this then shows as a list of local business within Fareham should someone be looking for a service. It has a search facility which can be either used as an A to Z of businesses or specify groups or activities search. The basic lists then take you to fuller company contact details and business information. You can apply online to register.

Fareham Business Rates

Fareham Business Rates are also known as National Non-Domestic Rates (NNDR). Business Rates are charged on properties that are used for a wide range of purposes which do not include domestic or residential use.

Business and the Planning System

The planning portal website (this is an external hyperlink) provides comprehensive planning information for small businesses.

To run a business from home or somewhere that does not currently operate as a business you may find you have to apply for a change of use on the building. This is stated within the Town and Country Planning (Use Classes) Order 1987. Apply for Commercial Waste/Bulky Waste Service

Fareham Borough Council provides a chargeable Trade Waste collection service to businesses throughout the Borough.

Bulky Waste is also a chargeable collection service, collecting bulky items such as old furniture and large appliances.

Licensing and Regulations for Businesses

Fareham provides information and details of licensing of people and premises for a range of activities including sale and supply of alcohol, late night refreshment, regulated entertainment, taxis, lotteries, charitable organisations, acupuncture, animal welfare, scrap metal dealers and motor salvage operators and new provisions regarding gambling premises as from 2007.

Tender Opportunities

The Council is committed to maximising the use of technology in the procurement process, and as such is continually exploring ways of doing business with its suppliers and customers through this medium.
