The third Fareham Technology Forum networking event was held at the Solent Hotel on Monday (23 November). 55 representatives from 40 member companies in Fareham attended, twice as many as the first event in April, including companies such as Telsis, Sotel (joint sponsors) , GEC Marconi and Merlin Communications. The function was hosted by Fareham Borough Council in association with the German-British Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

Key note speeches came from Paul Stein, Managing Director of Roke Manor Research Ltd, who spoke about "The Future Telecoms World" and Jürgen Gehrels KBE, Chairman, Siemens PLC, who spoke about "Emerging Technological Markets in Germany".

Mr Stein gave members of the Forum a head start in responding to the new technologies being developed. Fridges as domestic communications centres - a camera linked to a handheld PC/phone with you on holiday, letting you know if the milk has gone off and allowing you to check other systems like a security alarm.

The Council's view is that a forum for Fareham companies enables them to meet and understand better, each other's business activities. The outcome should be the generation of large amounts of new business for the benefit of the local economy.

The VIP party, including Paul Stein and Jürgen Gehrels, Alan Davies, Chief Executive, Fareham Borough Council, Dr Bernd Atenstaedt, Deputy Director General, German-British Chamber of Industry and Commerce and Graf von Roon, UK Representative, Cegelec SA undertook successful visits to Fareham firms, Telsis and Sotel, earlier in the day.
