
Tim Wilson, Chief Economist with Newton Investment Management Limited, explored technology investment themes for the 21st century in his analysis of how technology businesses might seek to press the right buttons in the City. His overview of the current state of the investment opportunities in the technology sector highlighted the difficulties of accurately predicting visions of future aspects of modern society. However, he did give some general indications of themes with market potential arising from the widespread adoption of existing technology (smart materials, computers and energy/fuel cells) and new technology (genetics and nano-technology). Tim advised that a low growth/low inflation world should give technology investments an edge. But he warned that low/non-tech ideas can perform just as well.
