Project Objective:

• The Fareham Business Database holds information on over 3,600 trading and non-trading companies in the Borough and has been collated from a series of sources. Interrogations are available free to local firms wishing to develop new customer sources effectively. Analysis helps enable the Borough Council map trends in support of its economic development strategy.

Forum Support Requested:

• The Database requires benchmarking and constant maintenance to ensure that it remains accurate. The Borough Council would be interested in talking with data management specialists who might provide an appraisal of the data and a programme of maintenance.

Project Objectives:

• Creating and keeping a team with good web skills is a problem for many new media companies, particularly in a world where developers can command ever-increasing fees.
• One solution for companies in the Fareham area is to tap into the wealth of talent at the University of Portsmouth.
• The first group of students to take this degree has reached the end of their second year and they are now looking for placements in a commercial environment.
• At the end of the second year the students can offer an impressive set of skills including expertise in Director 7, Flash 4, Authorware 5, Adobe Photoshop 5.5, Quark Express and html.

Forum Support Requested:

• The University has a number of students who are looking for short term contracts or placements where they can use the skills they have gained in web development, 3D animation, graphics and multimedia.
• The students are studying for a four-year degree, BSc Entertainment Technology, the third year of which is spent in a one year, paid placement.
