Town Centre Media Release

This is the latest media release from Fareham's Town Centre manager, circulated separately from Fareham Borough Council's press releases

Fareham Flies The Flag

Fareham Town Centre Management has organised six five-metre long banners to celebrate West Street’s

new improved image.  They are being erected on six lampposts on the northern side of West Street on

Wednesday 18 June.

Working alongside the businesses in West Street, Fareham Town Centre Management has produced the

‘West Street Speciality Shopping’ banners to complement the recent environmental project in the area.

They carry seasonal images of the leaf of the London Plane tree, the trees which have recently been planted

in the area.

Six West Street businesses jumped at the opportunity to sponsor the banners.  One of these, Julia Howard,

owner of Beauty Solutions at 203 West Street says "It is fantastic that attention has been paid to our end of

West Street in the improvements, as most of us are independent traders and really need local trade.  The

scheme has mirrored the effort we have already put into the interior of our shop!  It is now an attractive area

and hopefully will encourage customers to the fabulous array of shops we have in West Street"

Farmers Market

There will be a Farmers’ Market in Fareham’s West Street pedestrian precinct from 9am to

2pm on Saturday 2 August 2008.

Up to 40 local producers will be selling the best of their produce directly to customers

- everything from freshly picked organic vegetables to free range eggs, from fish from

local waters to rare breed meats, from home-baked bread and cakes to the honey made

from local bees.

Sample before you buy from the people who actually produce, and taste the difference in

quality whilst supporting your local farming and rural community.

Editors Notes

Fareham Farmers Markets are operated on the first Saturday of the month, all year round, and create an environment where consumers and producers are brought together.

  1. At Fareham Farmers Markets, all produce being sold must have been grown, reared, caught, brewed, pickled, baked or processed within the ‘local’ area.
  2. Every endeavour is made that the producer, or someone directly involved with the production of the goods, will sell the produce themselves.
  3. The definition of ‘local’ is normally within Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, or within 100 miles of Fareham if there is no suitable local producer of a given product.
  4. Preference will always be given to the most local producer when a space becomes available at the market without compromising quality.

This information will be updated when a new Town Centre media release is published.  For details of any previous Town Centre media releases please contact the Town Centre Manager on 01329 236100 or e-mail towncentre@fareham.gov.uk.
