Town Centre Media Release

These are the latest media releases from Fareham's Town Centre manager, circulated separately from Fareham Borough Council's press releases

Farmers' Market in September

There will be a Farmers’ Market in Fareham’s West Street from 9am to 2pm on Saturday 4 September 2010, so you can make sure that you are fully stocked with good local food to feed the family over the weekend.

Up to 40 local producers will be selling the best of their produce directly to customers - everything from freshly picked organic fruit and vegetables to free range eggs, from fish from local waters to rare breed meats, from home-baked bread and cakes to the honey made from local bees.

Sample before you buy from the people who actually produce, and taste the difference in quality whilst supporting your local farming and rural community.

This month, there will be live music from the south's favourite Irish band, Shenanigans.  This four-piece band plays lively, traditional and modern music including covers from The Pogues, Dubliners, Van Morrison, The Fureys and Christy Moore.

Editors Notes

  1. Fareham Town Centre Management has been organising and managing Farmers Markets in West Street Fareham since 1998.
  2. Fareham Farmers Markets are operated on the first Saturday of the month, all year round, and create an environment where consumers and producers are brought together.
  3. At Fareham Farmers Markets, all produce being sold must have been grown, reared, caught, brewed, pickled, baked or processed within the ‘local’ area.
  4. Every endeavour is made that the producer, or someone directly involved with the production of the goods, will sell the produce themselves.
  5. The definition of ‘local’ is normally within Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, or within 100 miles of Fareham if there is no suitable local producer of a given product.
  6. Preference will always be given to the most local producer when a space becomes available at the market without compromising quality.

Bygone Fareham

On Saturday 11 September there’s the return of firm favourite Bygone Fareham which will take place in the town centre from 9.30am to 4.30pm on Saturday 11 September 2010.

Fareham’s open air pedestrian shopping area is expected to be full of local owners classic vehicles - it is hoped around 50 cars will be exhibited from members of the South Hants Vehicle Preservation Society, Morris Marina Owners Club and the  Portsmouth & Southampton Mini Owners Club.

In the Performance Podium, members of Now That's Jive will dance to music from the 40s and 50s.

Chris White, Chairman of the SHVPS, which is expected to bring up to 30 vehicles, said ‘Our members thoroughly enjoy chatting and reminiscing with both the young and old about their cars.  There's always enormous interest from the people of Fareham, and so we are very pleased to be returning for another event this year’.
