Council

The Council comprises all elected councillors. Each year in May it selects 1 councillor to be the Mayor of Fareham, chairing the Council meetings and carrying out ceremonial duties.

The Council decides the authority's budget, its key policies and major plans and it determines the framework in which the Leader and the Executive may operate.

As well as its annual meeting (usually in May) and a special meeting in February to decide the level of Council Tax, the Council will generally meet on 6 other occasions during the year.
