Equality & Inclusion

Impact Assessments & Consultations

The purpose on an Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) is to ensure that throughout all of its policies, strategies and functions the Council must:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination
  • Promote equal opportunities
  • Promote good relations between people from different groups

Whilst local authorities have a legal duty to carry out EIAs in the areas of race, disability and gender, the Council has extended this to include the other equality areas of age, transgender, sexual orientation and religion or belief.  It has also included other areas that can often lead to discrimination such as poor literacy/numeracy, unemployment, low income and caring responsibilities.

The Council has produced a three year programme of Equality Impact Assessments:

Year 1 2008/09 EIAs

Year 2 2009/10 EIAs

Year 3 2010/11 EIAs
