Having provided funding for electronic service delivery, the Government is now looking to reap the benefits from this investment, as well as using the technology to implement "a 'root and branch' restructuring of local government services and democracy". This implies major changes in the way Councils work with their customers and manage their work internally. Fareham needs to move in the direction indicated by Central Government but, at the same time, has to meet local priorities. The strategy aims to amalgamate these drivers and has drawn up the following key aims.
To build on the E Government service delivery implementations to improve the quality, depth and availability of services and to increase the levels of self service.
To improve efficiency by using technology to streamline and automate both front and back office processes and to manage the Council's information.
To move closer to "joined up government" through more corporate approaches to technology, though technology-enabled partnership working and by using the facilities provided through Government Connect.
To provide opportunities for its members and staff to benefit from mobile and home working.
Fareham Borough Council is committed to improving service delivery for the residents, businesses and communities in the Borough of Fareham. The Council has now submitted seven annual IEG Statements to the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister on 31 July 2001, 31 October 2002, 10 November 2003 and 20 December 2004, 18th July 2005, 17 December 2005 and 29 March 2006. These documents set out a developing picture of how Fareham Borough Council plans to fulfil its commitment to meeting the Government's target of 100% of appropriate services being available for electronic delivery by 2005 and beyond.
