Department of Regulatory Services

Environmental Health Enforcement Policy Consultation

The Environmental Health Section of the Department of Regulatory Services is responsible for enforcing a wide range of legislation that may affect individuals, organisations or businesses residing or operating within its district.  Examples of such legislation include food safety, occupational safety, environmental protection, noise control, private sector housing, animal welfare, licensing and certain environmental antisocial activities.

In order to demonstrate that these regulatory activities are carried out in a fair, proportionate, transparent and consistent way, the section has in place an enforcement policy. This policy sets out the principles that will be followed when carrying regulatory activities. This enforcement policy was revised in September 2008 and the revised policy is now subject to public consultation, this consultation period will close on 31st October 2008, when any comments received will be considered and the revised policy published in December 2008. The revised policy and policy summary can be viewed via the links below.
