Downend Composting Site

From December 2008 the Environment Agency (0800 807060) will be the primary enforcing authority in respect of odours from the site.  If you have a complaint regarding odours please contact the Environment Agency direct.

Hampshire County Council have three green waste composting sites located in: Chilbolton, Downend (Fareham), Little Bushy Warren (Basingstoke).

All the green garden waste collected at the Hampshire Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) (and by some district councils) is taken to one of these sites. The green waste is composted in windrows, and turned into ‘Pro-Grow’ – high quality soil and lawn conditioners, woodchip mulch or pine bark that is available to buy at every HWRC.

A major expansion of Little Bushy Warren is under way, which will eventually mean that the three sites combined will be able to process over 100,000 tonnes of compost material every year.
