The Department of Regulatory Services has a statutory responsibility to enforce animal health and welfare regulations within the borough.
The Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976 states that no person shall keep any dangerous wild animal except under the authority of a licence granted in accordance with the provisions of this act by a local authority.
The premises where a dangerous wild animal is to be kept is regularly inspected to ensure that the accommodation is suitable in size and design, well maintained and that appropriate measures have been taken to ensure public safety.
