Handy Person Scheme

Minor repairs at a low cost.

A service provided by Care & Repair 023 9279 4400

Who are we?

Care & Repair is part of a nation-wide organisation which aims to assist elderly and/or disabled people to have repairs carried out to their homes.

Care & Repair is funded by the Government and Local Authorities.

Our Aims

To assist our clients to remain in their homes in a reasonable degree of comfort and security by providing a low cost repair service in addition to our normal agency work of obtaining grants and organising major repairs and adaptations.

How can we help?

We will arrange with you for the Handyperson to visit you in your home and provide an estimate for the work.

The Handyperson will be able to give you advice on a wide range of repairs.

There is no charge for the estimate.

Type of work undertaken?

All types of minor repairs can be undertaken by our qualified staff. If we are unable to do the job then we find someone who can. No work can be carried out above first floor gutter height.

Limit on hours worked

A maximum of two hours for each job carried out will allow the Handyperson to assist the greatest number of people.

One job a month will be the normal practice.

Paying for the Work

The cost of the work is based on an ability to pay. For people in receipt of Income Support and Council Tax Benefit, the hourly rate is £6.00 including VAT. All others will be charged £8.00 per hour including VAT.

You can provide your own materials, or they will be obtained for you and charged at cost.

The minimum charge is for one hour's work. After that the charge is to the nearest half an hour.

If you are unable to afford these prices, you will not be disqualified from being helped, but your request will be passed to Care & Repair for action.
