Legal Requirements for Hackney Carriage Drivers
There are a number of different laws affecting Hackney Carriage drivers, the main Acts of Parliament covering this licence are:
- Part II Local Government (Miscellaneous Provision) Act 1976
- Town Police Clauses Act 1847
- Transport Act 1985
- Disability Discrimination Acts 1995 and 2000
The 1976 Act says that we cannot grant you a licence unless we are satisfied that:
- You are a ‘fit and proper’ person to hold a drivers licence
- You currently hold and have held a full driving licence issued by the DVLA (this is an external hyperlink) for a period of 2 years before making your application
- You are 18 years old or above
- You have been honest in supplying all the necessary information required to us, a false statement on your application is a serious offence
- You have a sound knowledge of the Borough
- You have read the conditions of licence.
