During the summer months (May to September) the Environment Agency carries out bacteriological testing of the sea water at the borough's beaches. The results are posted on our notice boards located in the car parks at Monks Hill, Salterns Road and Hill Head Sailing Club (please see table below).
Guideline bathing water must meet the guideline standards for faecal coliform, total coliform and faecal streptococci parameters and the mandatory standard for the faecal and total coliform parameters of the Bathing Water Directive 76/160/EEC.
