Council Garages

Fareham Borough Council owns garages throughout the Borough which are available to rent for the use of storing a vehicle.  Garages cannot be rented to store furniture etc or to use as a workshop.

The Council currently has a number of vacant garages across the borough which are available to rent now.

To apply to rent a garage please complete the tenancy of a garage application form (59 Kb) PDF logo and return to the address shown on the form or fill in an online tenancy of a garage application form.

Applicants who are presently Council tenants are given priority on the waiting list, however, garages can be rented by non council tenants.

The application form asks you to state the area/s where you would like to rent the garage.  Certain areas in the Borough are more sought after than others and it is, therefore, impossible to say how long you would have to wait before being made an offer.

Once a garage has been offered to you, if you choose to sign and accept the tenancy, you will need to provide some personal identification for yourself and also a log book for the vehicle you will be storing in the garage. These must match your name and current home address.

Garages will not be let without these documents being provided.

To terminate the tenancy of a garage a weeks notice must be given.  This can be arranged by completing the garage termination form (57 Kb) PDF logoor by contacting the Council in writing.   The termination date must be on a Monday, with the keys being returned to the Council Offices by 12 noon on that day.

Any rent arrears must be cleared before the termination can be accepted.  If you fall behind with the rent at any time, the Council may issue a 'Notice to Quit' and you will be asked to clear the outstanding debt.

Providing there are garages available you may rent more than one garage at a time. However you will need to provide the log book for each vehicle that you wish to keep in each garage.

The weekly rent charges are as follows:

  • Council Tenants and Named Leaseholders £8.90
  • Non Council Tenants £10.68

Please note - it is Council policy to charge VAT to Council Tenants and Named Leaseholders if they rent a garage that is more that one mile away from their home. Therefore these tenants would then be charged the Non Council Tenants rent rate of £10.68 per week. If the garage you want to rent falls into this catergory you will be notified of this before you sign up.
