Where requested, Fareham Borough Council will carry out a visual inspection of your property to identify serious hazards and defects and prepare a report to help you to prioritise and plan essential repairs, and obtain estimates for the work required.
It is not a full structural survey of the property but will identify repairs that require attention.
Fareham Council can provide general advice on options available to finance repairs and how to employ a reputable contractor or refer you to other organisations and agencies for specialist help and advice. There is no charge for this service.

The Fareham Home Improvement Agency is a service provided by "in touch" part of The Hyde Group. The agency is a registered charity that offers advice on home improvements to older, vulnerable and disabled people, helping them to remain in their own home in greater comfort, security and independence. The agency's advice and guidance is offered free of charge. Fees are incurred where technical assistance is given ranging from initial drawings and/or specifications through to arranging complete building projects. The fees may be covered in any grant or loan awarded for the work and at no direct cost to the clients.

Fareham Council operates a Handyperson Service in conjunction with “Hyde In Touch”, Home Improvement Agency. The scheme assists vulnerable people by undertaking minor repairs to their property. A small charge is made for labour and materials are charged at cost price. The service is available to people aged over 60 and those with a disability.

If you have a child aged under 5 years or you are aged over 60, you can get a visual home safety and security check by a fully trained Homecheck Officer. The Homecheck Officer can install security chains, door and window locks, and various safety devices. Small works such as replacing damaged plugs, providing smoke alarms and fitting small security items are provided free of charge.
The Council makes a charge of £10.00 for this service. However if you are in receipt of an income related benefit the charge will be waivered.
