The Council's Private Sector Housing Renewal Strategy is the appropriate document that sets out the requirements and terms of grants and loans that the Council may consider. The Housing Overview Panel considered the strategy before approval was sought from the Executive Committee.
The Council are required to provide Mandatory Disabled Facilities Grants and continue to work in association with the Social Services to deliver assistance in the form of disabled facilities grants for mandatory works. The works recommended are considered by the Council provided they are deemed to be reasonable and necessary taking the suitability of the dwelling into consideration and have been referred to the Council by an occupational therapist from Hampshire County Council.
Applicants for grant are required to undertake a Financial Assessment; then the grant approved is determined by deducting the applicants' contribution from the eligible cost of the works, the maximum eligible cost of the works is £25,000.
Applicants will be informed of the agency arrangement provided by the Care and Repair Home improvement Agency to assist in the preparation and supervision of the works.
It is the Council's policy not to provide Disabled Facilities Grant Assistance for works of adaptation that exceed the statutory £25,000 maximum eligible expense limit or for works that are not prescribed as mandatory work for disabled facilities grant.
Applications that do not comply with the criteria set out in the Councils strategy statement will be refused grant assistance for discretionary disabled facilities grant.
Applicants that are refused a discretionary disabled facilities grant can appeal against the officer's decision. The appeals and complaints procedure is available on request.
