The council lets a number of its properties where support is provided, these include accommodation which is fitted with a community alarm for tenants over the age of 60.
In addition the council sub lets a small number of its properties to other organisations who in turn provide support to the tenant until such time as they may be able to sustain a council tenancy of their own.
This is a tenancy where the tenant receives support to enable them to maintain their tenancy and at the same time promote their independent living.
The support provided could be in the form of an alarm or for general counselling depending on the tenants needs and the type of accommodation they reside in.
Support is provided to tenants by a number of organisations including the council itself. This can be by way of visits from a sheltered housing officer (council) or floating support worker (other organisations).
This will vary according to individual tenants needs and the type of accommodation they reside in.
The support can be paid for in a number of ways, these include direct to the support provider or by a supporting people payment for those tenants who were in receipt of housing benefit prior to April 2003. After this date you may need to apply for assistance if you are unable to afford it yourself.
