The PAHGA hold their own competition, now in its 57th year and is still as popular as ever.
There are 157 classes and these are open to both members and non-members of the Association. The only restriction is that non-members do not win any cups or shields. The classes cover an extensive range and variety of seasonal fruits, vegetables and home grown produce. To encourage as many people as possible to participate, there are classes devoted to handicraft for children, an indoor plant section, cakes, jams and chutneys, not forgetting the home-made beers and wines.
Judging is carried out by members of the Horticultural Society. Prizes are awarded for each category, and each prize has a points value. The member achieving the highest number of points receives the Banksian Medal presented by the Royal Horticultural Society.
If you would like to enter the competition, further details can be obtained from the Show Manager Mr P Whitehead who can be contacted on 023 9232 5753.
To maintain momentum within the Association there is also the annual Autumn Cup, which is presented in the Autumn, hence the name of the cup. The aim is to encourage all allotment holders to prepare their plots for the coming winter months and to encourage the growth of winter vegetables.
