Introduction
As part of the Children’s Play initiative, run by the BIG Lottery, £155 million was committed to develop free play opportunities in the areas of greatest need, provide regional support and development infrastructure and support for innovation.
Children’s Play programme
Local authorities across England were allocated £124 million on the basis of size and need, to provide free, local and inclusive play opportunities. Local authorities were invited to work with partners to develop a play strategy and portfolio of projects as the basis for an application for their allocated sum.
Fareham Borough Council
The council has received £200,000 for play projects, which was based on child population (0-16) and deprivation indices. In order to qualify for this funding the council had to develop a play strategy with our partners and submit a portfolio of play projects.
Leisure & The Environment (Play) were appointed as Consultants to help develop the Play Strategy and the application to the BIG Lottery. The deadline for submission to the Big Lottery fund was 10th September 2007.
