Cemeteries and churchyards are peaceful and tranquil places; somewhere to spend some quiet time remembering loved ones. A place for reflection. A warm, welcoming place where you can sit quietly, alone with your own thoughts, or talk with others.
At Fareham Borough Council, we pride ourselves on managing our local Cemeteries in a caring manner. Just as important is our determination that your dealings with us should be handled professionally and sympathetically.
We recognise the environmental sensitivity of the borough's old churchyards. We treat them as small nature reserves, taking care of the animal and plant life that flourishes there. Finally we never forget the important role that Cemeteries play in the social history of the area.
Some of the Cemeteries in Fareham have sections set apart for the interment of people of different religious beliefs. With the exception of older areas in the Council's Cemeteries, the burial grounds are laid to lawn. Memorials and floral tributes can be placed in the memorial border. The installation of new kerbstones is no longer permitted.
The Cemetery regulations provide information on graves, guidance on maintenance and memorials. In order to help keep the local Cemeteries attractive, we respectfully ask visitors to observe these regulations.
Entry to the Borough's Cemeteries is restricted to the hours between sunrise and sunset.
