Hiring a Sports Pitch
In order to keep you informed as to whether Fareham Borough Council’s pitches are deemed fit to play, following inspection by our grounds maintenance team, updates will be shown here each week.
Staggered kick-off times have been introduced at the site this season due to issues with car parking. This seems to be working well and is continually monitored.
Please be aware there are alternative car parking facilities for users - Salterns Road Car Park, Hill Head, and we would encourage hirers to advise all players, spectators and opposition to use this facility as well.
There have been a number of complaints of rubbish left and pitches and facilities left in a poor untidy condition.
Please can you ensure that both the inside and outside of facilities are left clean and tidy, as well as removing all rubbish from the pitches, as per the Terms & Conditions of hiring the facilities.
There is a charge of £25.00 which will automatically be charged to the hirer if the facility is not left in a clean and tidy condition.
You may be aware that the changing rooms at Wicor Recreation Ground have recently been subjected to considerable vandalism with the result that the water system has suffered extensive damage causing flooding and in addition much of the copper pipework has been removed or damaged. A preliminary survey has shown that it would cost in excess of £10,000 to bring the facility back into use, i.e to make the building secure and provide WC facilities. It has therefore been decided to close the changing rooms at Wicor Recreation Ground with immediate effect as it is no longer economic to maintain this facility.
You may be aware that the Councils Community Policy Development and Review Panel recently agreed to the start of feasibility work into a full refurbishment of the existing facility or the provision of new build changing rooms. This work is due to commence in the autumn and it is intended to report the outcome to the Councils Executive in early 2011 with recommendation for the future of this site.
In the short term a small area of the changing rooms will remain available for use. These can be accessed via the first door as you approach from the car park on the eastern side of the building. You will need to access the plant room to switch on the lights to these changing rooms. This is accessed via the fourth door along.
It is unfortunate that the Council has had to take this decision, but regrettably in the current economic climate the available budgets are insufficient to address problems resulting from vandalism at this location.
For information, Mr & Mrs Rainey who operate the catering concession at this site, have also confirmed that they will continue to provide their service in the forthcoming season.
We have had a number of complaints from residents in various areas of the Borough about the rubbish left by people at the end of games/matches. Please could all Clubs/Leagues be aware that the clearing of rubbish from pitches is their responsibility.
Items of untested electrical equipment can be a source of ignition therefore no items of Portable Electrical Equipment can be used at any of the changing rooms unless evidence has been provided in advance that they have been PAT tested by a competent electrician. Any such items found in the pavilions without evidence of this testing will be removed.
Pitch availablity: Week commencing Monday 7th May to Sunday 11th May 2012
There are no pitches available for games this week due to adverse weather conditions.
