Play Areas within Fareham
The Leisure and Community Division manages thirty-eight children’s play areas across the borough and seven skate facilities. Further details are available on the equipment within our most popular play areas.
These play areas are situated in parks and open spaces and form part of a range of facilities and activities, whilst others can be found in local residential areas. Access to all these unsupervised play areas is free and unrestricted.
The council's Grounds Maintenance Team look after these play areas. Equipment is checked by qualified inspectors on a weekly basis to ensure that equipment is functional, secure and safe. In addition to this, all play areas are visited at least twice a week to carry out appropriate cleansing operations such as litter collection. During busy times, such as school non-term time and after reported vandalism, play areas are checked more frequently.
Annually a play area report is carried out by an external company to ensure that the equipment is safe and within current British and European guidelines. Damage or works required can be reported online through our Report a Problem form.
A Play Strategy has recently been developed and seeks to inform policy priorities and proposed service developments for play and young people’s facilities in Fareham over the next five years (2007-2012). The strategy includes an Action Plan to cover this period.
The council has submitted an application to the BIG lottery fund in order to secure £200,000 to fund various projects over the next three years.
The council is currently working to produce a three year Refurbishment Programme for our play areas. New play areas will be designed in consultation with residents and children, following our design guidelines.
