Originally a rural Borough with many small satellite villages, Fareham has seen a rapid and controlled expansion in residential development over the last 20 - 30 years.
Good planning policy has ensured that valuable trees and areas of natural landscape have been retained between developments and new trees planted to replace any that had to be removed.
As a result Fareham is the green and pleasant Borough that it is today with many trees, hedgerows and woodlands.
The Leisure and Community Division manages trees in parks & open spaces, woodlands, cemeteries and along greenways.
The Council aims to retain trees for the benefit and enjoyment of residents and visitors alike. Maintenance is undertaken to minimise any nuisance or risk to people and property, and maintain the health of trees. A planting programme is undertaken each winter to sustain and improve the Borough’s tree stock.
In order to effectively manage the Council tree resource and trees protected by a Preservation Order, Fareham Borough Council has produced a Tree Policy. The final version was formally adopted in July 2007
