The Council offers a domestic healthcare waste collection service where there is a medical need or for needles, or 'sharps'. If your household requires this collection please contact us using the details at the bottom of this page.
We will send you a Referral Form (137KB)
, which your healthcare professional, for example your GP or nurse, will need to complete. Alternatively, you can print one off for your healthcare professional to fill in. The form asks them to classify the waste.
Only the following types of waste are collected by a special healthcare collection:
Healthcare waste which is not infectious is classed as offensive waste, and can be put in your general household waste bin. This usually includes incontinence pads and nappies. Please see the guidelines for disposing of this waste in your refuse bin.
If you already have a healthcare waste collection; please follow these guidelines. Please note that if your bin is not out for 5 weeks in a row, we will stop the collection temporarily. When you are ready to have the waste collected again, just contact us and we will re-start the collection.
If your household no longer requires a healthcare waste collection please let us know and we will remove the bin.
