Household recycling

Fareham residents are being encouraged to continue recycling their household waste, and are being reassured that their recyclables are still being put to good use, despite the impact that the economic downturn is having on the demand for materials. More information is available (this is an external hyperlink).

Households in Fareham have a blue-top bin for recyclables, emptied every fortnight. This bin must only be used for:

  • Paper
  • Card
  • Food Tins
  • Drink Cans
  • Plastic bottles - no other sort of plastic. If it's bottle-shaped, put it in, if it's not, leave it out of the recycling bin.
  • Everything must be loose in the bin, no carrier bags please.

Households living in flats are having recycling introduced when there is room for the bins to be stored at the flats.

Glass must not be put in your recycling bin. There are recycling banks around the borough for all glass jars and bottles, and for textiles. There are a few paper banks around the Borough. Paper and card can be put in your blue top bin, but the banks also take Yellow Pages and shredded paper. There are also banks available for books, CDs and videos; alternatively these items can be taken to a charity shop.
