All textiles, clothing, household linens, shoes and accessories can be reused or recycled. Even worn, old items can be recycled, as long as they are clean.

Textiles cannot be recycled in the kerbside recycling bins because they would be ruined by the sorting process.

You can put all items in the Textile Recycling Banks around the borough, or give them to a charity shop or jumble sale.

The banks accept all types of clean clothing, including accessories, underwear, and shoes; and all household textiles. Please put items into a plastic bag, and tie pairs of shoes together. Shoes can go in the Textile Bank if there is no shoe bank on site.

We work with three charities who manage the textile banks around the Borough. They re-use and recycle the textiles to benefit their causes. They are the Salvation Army (this is an external hyperlink), TRAID (Textile Recycling for Aid & International Development) (this is an external hyperlink), and Hampshire Air Ambulance (this is an external hyperlink).

Items suitable for reuse are sold in this country or developing countries. Old material is recycled into insulation panels for new cars, mattress stuffings, or blankets for the house removal trade.

We make every effort to maintain recycling bank sites in a clean and tidy condition. Please contact us to report any problems, or if you have any comments about recycling and waste. You can email us at customerservices@fareham.gov.uk or telephone 01329 236100.
