Refuse collection in Fareham

Fareham Borough Council collects household refuse in wheeled bins, on an alternate collection system with recycling. Please put your bin out by 6am on collection day, or the evening before. Please take it back in as soon as possible after emptying.

Replacement or new refuse bins

There is a charge of £30 (including delivery) for the provision of new and/or replacement green top refuse wheeled bins.

 

If the bin/lid was broken on the collection vehicle during the emptying process, the bin will be replaced free of charge (subject to management approval/inspection). New households will need to purchase a green top refuse bin. A recycling blue top bin will be provided free of charge.

 

If you wish to change the size of your bin, this can be arranged free of charge, up to the maximum size of a 240 litre bin. Blue top recycling wheeled bins will continue to be delivered free of charge. Only Fareham Borough Council issued wheeled bins are acceptable and no other wheeled bin will be emptied.

 

Householders are strongly advised to put their house number on their wheeled bins.

Help with moving your bin (Assisted Lift)

Householders who are disabled or infirm and cannot move their bin or garden waste sack can request an assisted lift. This means the crews will collect the bin or garden waste sack from where you keep it on your property, and return it there.

This service is only offered where there is no other able-bodied person at the property who could put the bin out on the edge of the highway. A Waste and Recycling Officer will visit you to discuss your request.

Extra refuse capacity

For large households or those with exceptional circumstances, an extra, small refuse bin may be issued. This is subject to a visit from a Waste and Recycling Officer, to determine that all possible efforts are being made to recycle. If the application for an extra bin is approved, there is a £30-00 charge for the bin. Extra recycling bins can be issued free of charge to any households.

Items not to put in your refuse bin

• Soil and rubble - this heavy material may break the bin. It should be disposed of at the Household Waste Recycling Centres, or by means of a hired skip.
• Hazardous household waste, including oil and paint - further information on hazardous waste is available. This can be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centre.
• No liquids can be put in the bin because they will spill out along the road.
• Garden waste is banned from the bin. There is a free collection service for one sack; there is an option to purchase further bags for garden waste.
• Paper, card, cans, tins, plastic bottles - these materials must be put in your blue-top recycling bin.
