Street Cleansing

Hampshire County Council is the legal owner of all adopted roads and pavements within the Borough.

Fareham Borough Council clean these areas on their behalf under the terms of an agency agreement, to a standard according to the Environmental Protection Act 1990.  The street cleansing section is responsible for carrying out this duty.  Other areas the Street Cleansing Section is responsible for are:

Adopted Roads & Footpaths

Carriageway channels and some paths are swept using mechanical sweepers on a frequency of 1 day to 3 weeks, the frequency depending upon known need.

Subways

There are ten subways within the Borough, which are cleansed every ten working days.
Hampshire County Council deals with any graffiti that is found in them.

Footbridges

There are four footbridges within the Borough which are cleansed every six weeks.

Beaches and Coastal Foreshores

We maintain the foreshore from the boundary with Gosport Council at Monks Hill car park to Salterns car park, from Cliff Road to Meonshore Chalets, Warsash and Swanwick Shore Road.

All relevant beaches are litter picked and cleansed above the high-water mark.
During the months of April to October the beach is cleansed on a daily basis.
Between the months of November to March the frequency of cleansing is reduced.

Litter Bins

Litterbins are emptied on a regular basis; this ranges from three times a day to once a week.

We collect dead domestic animals that have been involved in accidents on the highway.

Council Owned Car Parks

All relevant highway car parks are cleansed on a regular basis. The frequency of the cleansing depends on the public usage.

Town Centre

The Town Centre is classed as a Zone 1 under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
There are two full time operatives in the Town Centre.
Cleansing of the Town Centre to achieve a grade A is done on a daily basis by 8.00am.
Numerous follow up cleans are carried out during the day.

Graffiti Removal

The Council attempts to clean graffiti from all Council owned structures within thirty working days of it being reported.  Offensive graffiti is usually cleaned within five working days.  The Council can also remove graffiti from private domestic property free of charge, subject to the landowner signing a consent form.  To report graffiti please contact the Council on Tel: 01329 236100 or e-mail customerservices@fareham.gov.uk
