The appropriate repair of historic buildings using traditional methods and materials is important in retaining the character and special interest that led to their designation. Fareham Borough Council historic building grants for certain works of repair to particular categories of listed buildings.

The following repairs may be eligible for grant aid at a rate of 20% of the total cost of the work.

• Thatching / re-thatching in long straw only
• Historic boundary walls
• Historic farm buildings to be retained in agricultural/ storage use, without major alteration
• Memorials, statues, etc
• Structures at risk.

The following repairs may be eligible for grant aid at a rate of 10% of the total cost of the work

• Repairs to grade I and grade II* churches
• Window and door repairs
• Roof repairs
• Timber frame repairs
• Chimney repairs
• Re-thatching
• Specialist survey work/fees in connection with repairs
• Dendrochronology (precise dating of timber framed structures using tree ring patterns).

Grants cannot exceed a maximum of £1500.
