Downland

The location of downland was indicated by reference to the Hampshire County Council map of downland (1991) and by the Hampshire County Council 'Chalk grassland survey 1980-1982'. Confirmation of downland extent was checked by examination of aerial photographs. Areas observed on aerial photographs of unimproved grassland associated with downland were also recorded as downland.
