Recent Settlements

A basic distinction has been made between pre-1810 and post-1810 settlement. In effect, this can be seen as a rough approximation to pre- and post-industrialisation. Recent settlements are as shown on modern maps, excluding settlements shown on pre-1810 maps. Caravan sites are recorded as a settlement when they are of a substantial permanent nature.
