Fareham Borough Council is starting to plan the future of the Coldeast Hospital Site at Sarisbury. The site is largely redundant as the main hospital use ended in 1997. Large areas of the site, including a Mansion House, are vacant and there is little public access to the site.
The Borough Council wants to ensure that the planned new Community Hospital is built at Coldeast by the end of 2010, and to conserve and enhance the rest of the site, bringing forward a new use for the Mansion and delivering community uses, publicly accessible open space and recreation proposals. New housing may also be built on parts of the site. The Borough Council will be looking at the site comprehensively and it intends to maximise the benefits to the local and wider community.
The eventual plans for Coldeast will be brought together in a Development Brief which it is hoped will be finally approved in Summer 2008. This will be after two rounds of consultation have been held with the local community and other interested parties.
A leaflet was produced informing the public of an exhibition at Brookfield School on 16th and 17th November, unfortunately due to problems with distribution the leaflet did not reach all intended recipients in time. Therefore a further two exhibition days were arranged for the 7th and 8th December and the consultation period was extended until 17th December:
