Fareham Borough Greenspace Study

 

The Greenspace Study is an ‘Evidence Study’ for the LDF, based on national planning guidance as set in PPG17 and its companion guide. It has been produced by Planning Policy in partnership with Leisure & Environment.

 

It aims to provide answers to the following questions;

• What type of open space do we have and what is its purpose?
• What type of open space do the public want?
• Do we have enough of each type of open space?
• Is the open space within a reasonable distance and is it of sufficient quality?
• If not, where is more needed and how can we address the need?

 

The study has been informed by extensive community consultation including a random household survey, a local schools survey, an online survey of voluntary & community groups and face to face consultation with voluntary & community groups.

 

It sub-divides the Borough’s open space according to three broad typologies;

• Parks and Amenity Open Space
• Young Person’s Provision
• Accessible Natural Greenspace

The fourth broad typology, outdoor sports facilities, was the subject of the Playing Pitch Assessment & Strategy.

 

Analysis is undertaken according to seventeen geographical ‘settlement areas’, neighbourhoods based as much as possible on natural boundaries rather than political boundaries.
