Supplementary Planning Documents are non-statutory documents which are not subject to independent examination and do not have Development Plan status. However, they will be subject to a thorough process of public consultation, in accordance with the Council's Statement of Community Involvement, but are no longer required to be subject to a Sustainability Appraisal. They can also be 'material considerations' when making decisions about new development.
This is the first stage of preparation for a Supplementary Planning Document. It includes gathering information through surveys, from relevant bodies on highway and other implications, and from the public on the issues relating to the site or topics that are of particular concern. An informal consultation stage is used to assist this process.
The preparation of a Supplementary Planning Document involves the drafting of a document which has been informed by evidence gathering and identification of key issues and is then available for public consultation for a 4 - 6 week period.
The revised Supplementary Planning Document is informed by public consultation from the draft document. Any appropriate changes are then made and the Supplementary Planning Document can be adopted.
