The sustainability appraisal process is used to inform the preparation of a development plan from the outset and to ensure that the policies and proposals will promote sustainable development. It includes the formal Strategic Environmental Assessment and should follow the guidance set out in the Communities and Local Government Plan Making Manual (this is an external hyperlink)
The scope of the sustainability appraisal was informed by the evidence base for the plan. Consultation with the Environment Agency, English Heritage and Natural England was used to establish the information and level of detail to include in the sustainability appraisal report.
Scoping reports have been prepared for the Core Strategy and the Strategic Development Area Action Plan.
The Strategic Development Area AAP Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report - July 2009 (5.72 Mb)
was available for comment between the 6 July and the 11 August 2009. The responses received are summarised in Appendix A to the report Responses to Consultation in the Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report and Baseline Information for the SDA Area Action Plan. (148.16 Kb) ![]()
Sustainability Appraisal is an iterative process and an integrated part of plan preparation. It should inform the evaluation of alternatives and choices between options, including policy options. An interim report may be produced or the outcome of the appraisal in terms of the impact of options described in consultation drafts of DPDs.
A revised Sustainability Appraisal Report has been prepared to accompany the pre-submission Development Plan Documents consultation Between the 13th December 2010 and the 31st January 2011.
