Town Centre Area Action Plan

The Town Centre Area Action Plan is a 20 year strategy for Fareham’s town centre to help manage change and growth. The strategy will set out how the vitality and viability, quality, safety, and attractiveness of the town centre should be maintained and strengthened. Seeks to identify development sites and opportunities, areas of protection and enhancement and policies to deliver the strategy.

Preparation Stages

This document will undergo various stages of preparation before it is adopted. Each stage involves a period of public consultation, which then informs the next revision of the document.

Issues and Options Consultation Report

There was strong support (where an opinion had been expressed) for the overall Vision, Objectives and Strategy. In particular there was strong support for the principle of mixed use development, the protection of green space, existing shops, employment areas and land for public transport. Concern was raised about traffic and for some of the development opportunity zones alteration to the balance of uses was sought. It is recognised that there was a limited response to the consultation and that further consultation will be necessary as part of the preparation of the next version of the document.
