Speed Limits

The Council frequently receives requests for the introduction of lower speed limits on certain Borough roads.  Some of these are improved for reasons set down by the Department for Transport (DfT) (this is an external hyperlink).

 

Strict rules are in place to ensure that a speed limit is appropriate for the particular road and is enforceable.  The Police (this is an external hyperlink) are responsible for enforcing the speed limits and therefore all proposals for the introduction of changes in speed limits must be approved by them.  For more guidance and information about speed limits, please download this DfT leaflet: Information for Drivers on Speed Limits (76 Kb) .
