Traffic Investigations

Traffic Investigations can include surveys of vehicle speed, traffic volume, accident analysis an cycle/pedestrian flows along a specific stretch of road.

Many requests are received for traffic investigations.  In order to keep the number of requests to a manageable level, all requests should meet one or more of the following criteria before being placed on the Pool List (Waiting List).

  • Identified need to assist cyclists
  • Three or more recorded personal injury accidents in a three year period at a junction or within a 100 metre stretch of road (in the case of traffic calming requests accidents should be speed related).
  • Identified need to assist pedestrians (including requests for pedestrian crossings)
  • A problem relating to a crime and/or personal safety
  • Assistance with non-motorised travel to school.
