Council Tax

Calculation of a Band D charge

How your bill is made up

You pay all of your Council Tax to Fareham Borough Council, but only 10% of it pays for the services we provide. The rest pays for the services provided by Hampshire County Council – such as education, social services and highways and those of the Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service and Hampshire Police Authorities.

As a billing authority, Fareham Borough Council strives to collect as much Council Tax as possible. The latest available figures (2006/07) show that Fareham collected 98.6% of all Council Tax. This compares very well to the national average collection rate of 96.9% and as such we remain one of the best performing authorities in Hampshire, and also nationally.
