Register of Electors

The Register of Electors is a list of all those residents who are eligible to vote at the various elections held in the Borough.   The register is prepared and published on 1 December each year, following a canvass of all households in the Borough.  It is then updated on a monthly basis until September, when the annual canvass will begin again.   It is a requirement of law for everyone who is eligible to be registered, even if they do not intend to vote.  You are not registered automatically, even if you pay Council Tax

The register is held in two formats – a full version and an edited version.  The full version contains the details of all electors and is the version used in elections and also for preventing and detecting crime and for checking applications for credit.  The edited version contains the names and addresses of persons who have made no objection to their names being sold on to commercial and other organisations.
