Housing And Council Tax Benefits

Performance Standard for Housing and Council Tax Benefit

In April 2005 the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) introduced the National Benefits Performance Standards to measure each Local Authority’s benefits service performance across a range of 19 key measures and enablers.  Fareham Borough Council has achieved a score of 4 (excellent) overall and is therefore one of the top performing benefit services in the country.

We have compiled a table that shows our performance against these standards for 2007/08 (94 Kb) PDF logo.

With effect from April 2008, the responsibility for ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of benefit services was transferred to the Audit Commission. Further information about the Audit Commission and its work can be found on this website www.audit-commission.gov.uk (this is an external hyperlink).

The focus of the Audit Commission’s work will be to judge how well customer care and value for money is being delivered and improved.  Their judgements will be underpinned by assessing how well the council gets the right benefit payments to the right people at the right time.

Details of our performance against these new measures and judgements will be published as soon as they become available.

The DWP (this is an external hyperlink) provide a website that shows the performance of all local authorities. It is possible to use this to see how Fareham Borough Council Benefits Department compare locally and nationally in performance.
