Kate Maddison works as a
professional freelance artist having gained a degree in
architecture in 1981. She has worked in event, celebratory,
environmental and public art. In 1984 she co founded Chrysalis
Arts Ltd based in Gargrave, North Yorkshire.
For the Henry Cort Exhibition, Kate has designed the Performance Structure using a combination of modern technology, traditional crafts and historic use of timber and iron. The Structure reflects both the nautical and the market traditions of Fareham.
The Structure features twelve wrought iron louvered panels that alter according to the time of day, light conditions and position of the viewer.
The 6 upper panels are of a Bulls head based on a detail taken from a historic photo, kept at Westbury Manor Museum, of a livestock auction at Fareham market. The 6 lower panels depict images of a transaction between a buyer and a Market stall holder, based on photographs of Fareham's contemporary Market, 'donated to Westbury Manor Museum'.
The Performance Structure was constructed by Chrysalis Arts
