A Crime Reduction Environment Week (CREW) event will take place in Locks Heath, beginning on Saturday 19th July 2008.
CREW is a multi-agency initiative to prevent crime, support the community and improve the attractiveness of the local area.
This year’s event has been organised by the Park Gate West Safer Neighbourhoods Policing Team, with the help of Fareham Borough Council’s Community Safety and Enforcement Teams, Locks Heath Free Church, Locks Heath Centre Management, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and the Fareham Youth Team.
The week will tackle local issues such as graffiti and litter. Organised activities will also focus on developing long term youth projects in the Locks Heath area.
CREW week schedule:
Saturday 19th July: Locks Heath Centre (10am -5pm) Fire; RNLI; Police; Bike coding
Sunday 20th July: Locks Heath Free Church litter pick
Wednesday 23rd July: Trading Standards will visit Locks Heath in the morning. Locks Heath Free Church will be holding a 'Juice Bar' from 6.30pm - 9pm at the Genesis Centre.
Thursday 24th July: Graffiti removal with Locks Heath Free Church, painting green boxes that have graffiti on them. 'Scooter meet' at Genesis Centre for young people to find out more about the Scooter Project being held weekly at Xperience youth centre.
Friday 25th July: Locks Heath Free Church carrying out 'Copse Work' at Locks Wood. Police traffic operations in the area.
Saturday 26th July: BBQ (6pm - 8.30pm) to thank everyone who took part in CREW week.
Executive Member for Public Protection, Councillor Arthur Mandry, said: “I’m delighted the event is able to take place with so many local agencies taking part. The week offers both these local agencies and members of the public the opportunity to talk about and deal with the issues which directly affect them. I would ask residents in the Locks Heath area to come along and take advantage of the activities taking place.”
Sergeant Dave Spacey of Hampshire police added: “Since the introduction of our Safer Neighbourhood Team for the Western Wards last year, a lot has been achieved and overall people are telling us they feel safer and more able to contact their local officers. Whilst there is still work to do, the CREW week is yet another example of the joint agencies and the community pulling together in order to make the Western Wards a better place to live and work”.
