Press Statement

Tuesday 10 January

Portchester Community Centre

Work on the new Portchester Community Centre is due to begin on site in Westlands Grove on 6 February, with completion scheduled for October.

The construction of the new building will be managed and overseen by Hampshire County Council on behalf of Fareham Borough Council with the contract for the build works being awarded to HA & DB Kitchin Limited (from Alton) who submitted the most competitive tender.

Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Seán Woodward, said: "I'm really pleased that the contract for building the new Portchester Community Centre has been awarded and work will be able to begin shortly. This is an excellent result of partnership working between Fareham Borough Council and Hampshire County Council following my approach to the Leader of Hampshire County Council, Councillor Ken Thornber, for help with this important project. The new centre will be a fantastic facility for the people of Portchester following the existing centre falling into disrepair. The community facilities it will contain include a new Children's Centre paid for by Hampshire County Council."

Once the new community centre has been completed, the old building (located next to the new building) will be demolished and the site landscaped within 12 weeks.
