Fareham Boxing Club has secured £987 from the Fareham Community Action Team to purchase new equipment, including practice punch bags and gloves. The club, which meets two evenings a week, on Mondays and Thursdays, is open to people aged 10 and above. It is currently based at Neville Lovett School and was established in 1964.
Chairman of the Fareham Community Action Team, Councillor John Bryant, said: “It is great that we can offer funding to this club, as they provide excellent opportunities for people of all ages in our communities. I look forward to visiting the club which will remind me of my school days when we all had to have a turn in the ring.”
Executive Member for Performance & Improvement and CATs Champion, Councillor Trevor Cartwright, added: “Community Action Teams were set up to enable us to work more closely with our residents, both in understanding their needs and concerns and helping them to develop facilities that provide a sense of belonging in Fareham. Helping groups to develop is a significant part of the CATs agenda and this award will enable this to happen.”
David Spencer, Chairman of the Fareham Boxing Club, said: “Fareham Boxing Club is well established within the Borough. Awards like this one enable us to develop our facilities even further and to provide even better opportunities for people of all ages in the Fareham area.”
