Residents at the third Titchfield Community Action Team used a special computer based voting system last night to register their views on what Hampshire policing priorities should be top of the list. The information gleaned will be used by Hampshire Police Authority to shape next year’s priorities.
Hampshire Police Authority brought Qwizdom – an interactive engagement tool (www.qwizdom.co.uk - this is an external hyperlink) to the meeting and asked residents to record their responses to a number of questions. These included whether they had been victims of crime, whether they felt safe living in the Borough, how frequently they saw police officers or police community support officers in their neighbourhood and whether they felt they received good value for money from the police service in the Borough.
After each question residents were shown results which gave rise to interesting discussions on topics as diverse as fear of crime, litter, anti-social behaviour, criminal damage and burglary.
Chairman of the Titchfield Community Action Team, Councillor Francis Devonshire, said: “The use of this interactive system will obviously help Hampshire Police Authority shape their future policing priorities. But not only that, it led to a number of interesting and enlightening discussions.
“Titchfield is a low crime area, with relatively few victims of crime. Last night’s debates did highlight, however, that there is a fear of crime, something which the local authority, the police and community leaders need to work hard to reduce.”
Hampshire Police Authority will be bringing Qwizdom to each of the four remaining March CATs meetings:
