Community Action Team funding looks set to help save the Titchfield Carnival. Following a funding request, the carnival organisers have secured £5,000 of Neighbourhood Initiatives Funding to help fund the October based event that attracts thousands. Carnival organisers – the Titchfield Bonfire Boys made a bid for funding following the suspension for one year only of the carnival in 2007.
Chairman of the Titchfield CATs, Councillor Francis Devonshire said: “Many people were disappointed that the 2007 Titchfield Carnival couldn’t go ahead and I am therefore delighted to be able to offer this £5,000 grant to help fund the event.
“I know that the organisers have put in a huge effort to raise funds themselves and that the event will be welcomed back by many in the area, so it looks like it’s full steam ahead for the Titchfield Carnival in 2008.”
Ann Whyntie, Treasurer of the Titchfield Bonfire Boys Society, said: “ We are very pleased to receive this funding. It will go a long way to ensuring that the 2008 Titchfield Carnival goes ahead in October and that we make it an event to remember.”
