Portchester precinct to get mini revamp

A successful bid for £12,000 of Neighbourhood Initiative Funding has been secured in Portchester. The funding will be used to improve the precinct area for shoppers and visitors alike. The bid was made by Cllr Roger Price on behalf of the residents of Portchester in September, seeking to improve the area, with particular emphasis on repairs to paving, replacing seating and the painting of lighting columns.

Portchester CATs Chairman, Councillor Nick Walker, said: “It is great that we are able to award a small amount of funding to help improve Portchester precinct. It is a well used area and one that needs a little tender loving care. This grant will help us achieve that.”

Executive Member for Performance and Improvement and CATs Champion, Councillor Trevor Cartwright, said: “ When we set up CATs meetings we wanted to listen to our communities, as well as having the chance to tell them more about new projects and initiatives in their area. Alongside this was the ability to award funding for projects in CATs areas and whilst CATs is not just about funding, this is an element of why they have been created.”

Bid sponsor, Councillor Roger Price,  said: “This funding gives us the opportunity to bring some improvements to the main shopping area in Portchester – something that will please local people – including myself.”
